PVC Decorative Film Manufacturing Process Explained (With Video/Pictures)

PVC decorative film is a versatile and durable material used for wrapping furniture, doors, cabinets, glass, and walls. Understanding the PVC decorative film manufacturing process helps importers, interior designers, and manufacturers ensure product quality and consistency. In this article, we’ll walk you through each step of the process, from raw material mixing to final packaging—with visuals for clarity.

The process begins with selecting and mixing raw materials such as:

  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin
  • Plasticizers for flexibility
  • Stabilizers for heat resistance
  • Pigments for color
  • Additives for UV resistance, gloss, or matte finishes

These ingredients are carefully measured and blended in high-speed mixers to form a uniform mixture.

There are two main ways to form the PVC film base:

  • Extrusion: The blended mixture is melted and forced through a flat die to form a thin sheet.
  • Calendering: The heated blend passes through multiple heated rollers to reach the desired thickness and surface texture.

At this stage, the film appears transparent or semi-transparent, ready for printing or embossing.

Using gravure or digital printing, wood grain, marble, solid colors, or custom designs are applied to the film surface. This step is crucial for achieving the realistic look of wood grain PVC film, stone textures, or metallic finishes.

To add depth and tactile quality, the printed film passes through embossing rollers that press textures like oak, walnut, or brushed aluminum onto the surface.

A protective top coating—such as a wear-resistant, glossy, or matte UV layer—is applied. Some films also include adhesive layers for self-adhesive PVC film variants. For glass film, a frosted or stained-glass effect may be added.

Before packaging, each batch goes through strict quality checks for:

  • Thickness uniformity
  • Print accuracy
  • Adhesion strength
  • Scratch resistance
  • Color consistency

Defective rolls are rejected or recycled.

The finished film is rolled onto cores of specific widths (e.g., 1220mm, 1400mm) and cut to desired lengths. Rolls are then labeled, shrink-wrapped, and boxed for export.

The PVC decorative film manufacturing process involves precise steps to ensure high-quality, customizable surface finishes suitable for furniture, doors, and walls. Whether you’re sourcing PVC self-adhesive film or bulk rolls for lamination, knowing how it’s made gives you confidence in the product and your supplier.
